I wrote a song inspired by a preaching at church a few weeks ago about loving God vs. loving the world. It's based on two verses and a quote:
1 John 2:15 "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him."
Matthew 6:19-20 ""Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth... But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal."
C.S. Lewis: "Aim at heaven and you will get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you get neither."
I recorded this song in a few hours, with a lousy earphone mike but I used a keyboard for extra sounds for the first time since a long long time. Enjoy!
Earthly Games and Glories
By Samuel K Lis, August/September 2011
Verse:
In this world of short-lived wonders
Earthly games and glories fade away
I will choose to thirst and hunger
For your kingdom and majesty today
I’ll say
I love you
Chorus:
What can the world offer
That could ever compare with you
How could the things of this world
Draw me away
From your unending love
And the joy that you give
There’s nothing greater
I love you
Bridge:
For if I run after earthly treasures
It will all go to waste
But if I run after Jesus
His love will still remain
Bridge 2:
For if I run after gold and silver
I lose sight of what is true
But if I run after Jesus
He gives me all that is good
For He is good
Last verse:
Aim at heaven and you will get earth thrown in
Aim at earth and you get neither
(C.S. Lewis direct quote)
Amen.
