Gorsh

Wow, SPM is drawing near - very, very near. 10 more days even as I speak.
Very soon my life as a secondary school student will be over. I will no longer wear this stupid white uniform, green pants and tie. I will no longer lug my heavyweight schoolbag to school, wake up at the dead of the dawn to bathe and eat breakfast nor stand in stupid assemblies under the scorching sun.

Frankly speaking, it's a bitter-sweet feeling. It's sweet, of course, to be finally free of government exams, text books and all that. No more school, oh yeah! But hey, I'll miss my classmates. I'm sad that 12 years of school life will be over. It's a whole new world out there that I don't really know because I've been under the shelter of school. Beyond these years, true friends are hard to find. People will start walking in and out of your life, there ain't no one you can really stick to.

OK I'm being over-dramtically melancholic, so should I just say... I can't wait for SPM to be over!! In actual fact, I can't wait for it to COME. I actually can't wait to sit for SPM to the fullest - to feel every tense nerve pop, and experience the stress, trauma and sensation of sitting for the ultimate exam of your life - no, not really.

Did you know there will be many other exams to come? SPM is not the final exam, and it is definitely not the hardest - that is if you're aiming for more. I know my sisters studying Medicine are struggling through really tough exams, every year! This make me wonder why we study so hard to sit for such difficult exams like SPM, only to study even harder and sit for even tougher exams later on. But at the end of the the day, your success is directly proportional to how the harder exams that you sit for. True or false? Not really, but like a MES alumni at Canada once told us, "The better your results, the more options you will have".

In conclusion, I can't wait for 11th November to come, but I am dreading 27th because that... will be the end. No more Form 5. No more school. I think I'll miss it.

[All the above is said assuming that I do not go up to Form 6, which I really hope I do not do...]

But now I'm still Form 5. I'm still sitting for SPM. Can I shut up and get back studying?

ZITS!!!

I. Just. Love. Zits.
No, not zits as in pimples but the comic strip "Zits" by Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman. It is always, always so funny and comical in a way I can relate to because it is centered on this teenager called Jeremy, his parents and his friends. Most English newspapers have the comic everyday at the Entertainment section, I think.

Anyway, I collected quite a number of Zits comic strips from 2004 until now, and I kept the ones I thought was funny enough to incur a smile or a laugh from myself. I have posted some and will be posting alot more in http://kana-kana-kana.blogspot.com (my secondary blog).

Some strips have a short storyline lasting one week or so, for example one series I named "Cleanliness. Or Lack Of It" and "Teen Pregnancy". I will be adding more later when I'm free. XD Enjoy!

Here are some of the comic strips...

Happy Deepavali

Gaahh!!!
It's the first time I'm living in a place outside of Kuching (at least as long as I can remember) when Deepavali is being celebrated. Heck, I didn't know it was being done so exuberantly.

They even have fireworks!! Now all the festivals seem to have the reoccurring theme of noisy firecrackers, makan makan makan and visiting each other. This really shows the diverse cultures in Malaysia really mixing, intertwining and closely connecting to each other.

Unfortunately Interestingly enough, Selangor has a high population of Hindus and Indians, therefore my ears are being constantly bombarded by the cheerful sounds of celebrations at this present moment, thus I cannot get anything into my head at all, therefore I must thank the cheer-givers for the distraction so I have an excuse not to study for one night.

=) Cheers, Happy Dancing in the Deep Valley! [Deep-A-Valley... XD]

Sick Sick Sick

Aggghhhhhhh. I have fever, flu and sore throat. Three of the six major temporary illnesses that I hate. [The others being cough, diarrhea and ulcer]
I think I got it from Gerald Ho. Probably transmitted through LAN network or something.

In light of Biology... I NEED MY LEUCOCYTES!!! a.k.a White blood cells. Where are my Basophils, Eosinophils, Neutrophils (B.E.N.), Lymphocytes and Monocytes (L.M.) that I need and love so much? *sob*

In light of Chemistry... I have taken Paracetamol, brand name known as Panadol. Paracetamol is neutral in nature unlike aspirin (acetyl salicylic acid). Paracetamol reduces fever, pain, flu symptoms, bony aches and runny nose.

*sigh* Still need to study... no time to rest... remember the chorus of the SPM song? "No one cares if you faint or cry or DIE IN PAIN..."

Musicians Are Emo?

Musicians are Emo: True or False?

According to a survey I did over the past few months, I have decided that the answer is TRUE. I sent an email to many friends who are musicians as well as some non-musicians. Sadly, I only received about 20 or so respondents, but the results show clearly that musicians who deem themselves musicians are quite emo.

From my respondents who are musically inclined, about 60% play the piano. 70% play two or more instruments. When answering the question "Do you consider yourself emo?", almost all answered "yes". As for those who answered "No", I know them personally so I can safely say that they actually are emotional but refuse to admit it.

[I don't think there's anything wrong with being emotional, is there?]

Most say they are perfectionists, and 70% say they will get a new piece of paper if they find a spot on a previous one. Most say they have a majority of black clothes. Some have mostly white clothes.

Conclusion:
Musicians are generally emo. Hypothesis accepted. Unfortunately the survey is far from complete because of the lack of respondents and the small range of people to study, so the whole experiment fails. Damn.

Anyway, musicians are emo. But are people who are emo all musicians? Not at all. Are there people who are NOT emo? I think at this teenage-transition-to-young-adult phase, most teenagers at some point, if not all the time, tend to be a bit unstable emotionally as their moods fluctuate like the US stock market. They [yours truly included?] have frequent mood swings, they can be happy and sad in a few seconds' difference, and get irritated easily. They also respond to moody songs like "Come Home" and "Against All Odds".

But like I said, it's not wrong to be emo. But once someone gets emo, people around them tend to get emo as well. It's infectious.

[Note: All the above is Samuel Kana's opinion, and as the saying goes, "Opinions are like assholes - everyone has one," you can differ anytime you want.XD]

*EDIT: Shall I rephrase myself?
Musicians tend to be emo because they are expressive. People who are emo tend to like music because it expresses.
Aggghh whatever.

Datuk Shah Rukh Khan

When I read an article in the newspaper about Shah Rukh Khan going to get a Datukship from the Sultan of Melaka, I was like, "What??!" Since when does Malaysia give out titles to famous people?"
Then my dad explained that sometimes the country wants to honour foreigners for their achievements and contributions albeit tiny and insignificant to the recepients. What did Datuk-to-be Shah Rukh Khan do? He acted in a movie which was filmed in Malaysia, thus "contributing to our film industry". Wow, Malaysia must be so unknown that they treasure a film that promoted the country ever so slightly...

[I looked up all the movies Shah Rukh Khan made, so the movie in Malaysia would probably be "Don - The Chase Begins Again" which was filmed 80% in Malaysia, that is, around Pulau Langkawi, Petronas Twin Towers and Jalan Masjid India.]

Ha. Ha. Ha.
Does the guy want the title? Does he even know what it means? I'd bet he's going to find a Malay-English dictionary and go "What? Why my title is grandfather? Am I that old? What... [expletives]"
Hold on... does he even know where MALAYSIA is?!

"Who? Where? You mean in Africa right?"

Right.
If I, a Malaysian were to get knighthood from Britain and become "Sir Samuel Kana", that would be cool, but this is a super famous actor getting a title from a country lacking in famous actors. Imagine, say, Amber Chia getting a title from Somalia or somewhere. Right, that'll so weird.

I mean, Shah Rukh Khan's not even a Malaysian... *sigh*, they just have too many awards to give.

Agghh... Maths

Several expletives are wanting to escape my fingers. How could I be oh-so-careless?

Can you believe it? 12 divided by 6... my answer was 1/2. Yeah right. Aggghhh...
And guess what? That stuuuuuuupeeeeeed mistake cost me 3 marks because the following questions required me to use the value. I could have gotten a beautiful 100 marks for Modern Maths, but because I could not even do simple arithmetic... in total I got a good-but-could-have-been-perfect 97%... *sob* *sob* so near yet so frustratingly far!!

Tag

I was tagged by Yvonne.

The rules and regulations:

1. Each player of this game starts off with 15 weird things/habits/little known facts about yourself.
2. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 15 weird things/habits/little known facts as well as state this rule clearly.
3. At the end, you need to choose 10 people to be tagged and list their names.
4. No tags back!!

[By the way, I made a list of this sometime ago in conjunction with Merdeka Day but anyway these would be the extra facts you probably don't know.]

1. I am and have been feeling very restless these days. It's like I know I have to sit at the table and study but it feels so difficult because I want to do many other things like THIS BLOG... *sob*

2. Did you know "OIC" is actually not "oh-i-see" but the Organisation of the Islamic Conference?

3. Last year when I took part in the National Postal Bible Quiz (in BL, Kuching), I only got co-curriculum marks for state level. But this year I got marks for national level for participation in the same quiz and also for getting 81% which gave me the same marks as if I got first place in an event. Good thing I came here, no?

4. I love the book "The Sword in the Stone" by T.H. White which I found at my school library. It was so entertaining and funny that I kept rereading and renewing the book for at least two months! The wizard, Merlyn, is so comical, and I just aaagghhh .... go read it. =)

5. I don't know if this makes me sound less mature than most, but my favourite movies are the animated "Ratatouille" and "Kung Fu Panda". This would be because I find the message very inspiring, that is to go after your dreams and ambitions no matter what friends or family say about you!

6. I don't like watching thrillers and movies with gore, violence or shock. I prefer to read about them on Wikipedia. Actually, it's not that I don't like to watch, but more of... cannot watch because no DVD... *sob*

7. I love Casting Crowns. The name itself is amazing. The songs like Does Anybody Hear Her, If We Are the Body, Lifesong, Now My Lifesong Sings, Praise You in the Storm, Who Am I and Voice of Truth are constantly being played on my MP3 because they are all very inspiring truths.

8. I only have about 40 days left until SPM. Is the number somehow significant? 40 days means testing, preparation for something, like how Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness, and 40 years of the Israelites wandering around in the desert, and 40 days and nights of rain in Noah's time... maybe that explains why I feel so restless?

9. I have no more time to type because my mom's bugging me to study. The rest will have to come later, or will never come. =(

[eitted 5.10.08]

10. I am very happy to have been able to play piano for the Beautiful Woman's Conference. Although I am exhausted and a bit sick now, but it was an honour and privilege.

11. I went to Cyber Cafe for the first time in my life yesterday! Some of us guys who were also playing in the Beautiful Woman's Conference has nothing to do while waiting for the women to finish so we decided to go to A to Z to play some Counter Strike and Call of Duty. It was fun, but it was so tiring, I probably wouldn't want to go there again...

12. I haven't watched Batman: The Dark Knight. I've heard everyone saying it was fantastic and The Joker was eerily amazing, but no, I haven't been able to watch it yet.

13. I don't watch Heroes, either, although many people I know love it so much. Yesterday when eating lunch with the aforementioned guys, they told me all about Heroes and all the super powers and the plot... but I have no time to watch. But it all sounds really cool though.

14. I CAN'T WAIT TO DRIIIVEEE!!!!!!

15. School reopens tomorrow after the Raya break, and I can't wait to get my results for trial. I'm hoping for the best, but I'm not putting the hopes too high, because I don't want to count my eggs before they hatch, right?
